ABOUT THE ARTIST

MATE ART / M8 ART is the independent painting studio of Jan Matejak (Jan Matěják, also known as Jan Van Osek). I create oil paintings, teach layered and direct painting techniques, publish books and recorded lessons at MATE ART Academy, and develop M8 Painting Tools for artists.
Jan’s aim is not only to rediscover the qualities, skills and knowledge of the Old Flemish Masters, but above all, to pass this on, across regions, countries and continents, to people who, like him, have the desire to paint a classical work.
Driven by this inner urge, he creates and runs websites, the contents of which include teaching materials, PDF files and videos that are available (to download) free of charge. Thanks to this philanthropic approach, anyone interested in this form of art can learn the basic skills required and, above all, avoid the transgressions, mistakes and dead ends inherent in all new beginnings.
